Pittsburgh is the home of the world's first commercial radio station, the first non-commercial television station, the first "networked" television station, and "mid-western" newspaper (Wikipedia 2006). It is one of the few middle-sized metropolitan areas in the US with two major daily newspapers, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, and which both have received Pulitzer Prizes and have produced investigative news stories on a national scale."
